Hi, all. I am an old VW nut from way back. I used to be parts department manager at the old Capital Garage in Fredericton in the early 70s. I'm looking for a perfect VW Caddy pickup. I can't get it till spring, but I'm starting to look now. They are rare. I'd like a turbodiesel (prefferably an intercooled 1.9), great interior, classy wheels and GTI grill (you get the idea). Anyone know of a good one for sale???

Yeah, I did see that when I was in St. John in September. I'm too old for that level of work. I 've done too many. I want one all done, and am prepared to pay.

It's a 1.7 gas with a 4-speed so a complete repower is needed (engine and tranny). It's just too much for a mediocre body. I've come to the point where I'm looking to Europe, but, as of yet, have been unable to cultivate a contact there who would be a broker (look for a truck, buy it for me and look after shipping on that end). That way, I could look for a 1990 truck, not an 81-84, which is all there is here. I'm willing to pay for the right truck, but it has to be right.

A friend of mine that lives in Halifax import's cars from Europe, I can give you some contact number if you are interested. He is more into Fiats and italian cars but he can probably hook you up with what you are looking for.
I find it's a good idea to import cause one of my friends bought an Austin Mini that was imported from Japan and he got an amazing deal ans the car was in great shape!!

Hi: Take a look at this one: cgi.ebay.ca/volkswagen-rabbit-pick-up-1981_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6060QQitemZ4595864864QQrdZ1It is located in Drummondville, PQ, which does not sound like a problem for you. The question is, has it seen salt? It is black, so I wonder if that is an original colour. Have not seen a black caddy before. You probably know this already, but VW of South Africa still sells the MK I with a new front and the caddy with a quad headlight grill. Does anyone know if the caddy was sold in Europe?

Thanks for the info on the black one...I'm checking it now. Yes, I know about the South African Caddy----too bad it's so far away. They also make, and sell the Caddy in europe. I am presently searching for a contact in Europe who could find and ship a Caddy from there....I'm desperate.

Hi dubdoc: I was surfing ebay uk the other day for a Golf GTD, and came across this Golf G60: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4594400113&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1That's not what's important, but what is is that that the company selling it, Eastfalia, deals in rare VW's. And, they import and export. From what I understand, you are looking at $2000.00 - just for shipping. That would only get it to Autoport in Eastern Passage (Dartmouth) on Ro-Ro (roll on, roll off boat, containers cost more). You can look at doubling the price for U.K. pounds. So, for that kind of cash, it had better be one nice friggin' machine, eh? To make things easier, look at importing a vehicle at least 15 years old. That way, you don't have to modify it to meet safety and emission standards. If you haven't done so, search google for vehicle importing. I briefly thought about importing a A2 GTD, but for that amount of money, I could probably buy a nearly new A4 2 door Golf TDI. You mentioned a 1.9 intercooled turbo diesel. I'm not familar with this. Is that what's in the A3 Golf and Jetta's - pre TDI?

Wow, thanks for the lead. I've sent an email off to Eastfalia. The black one is in hard shape. The ebay ad is very deceiving. The 1.9 TD was after the 1.6, but before the TDI. It is simpler than a TDI, yet develops almost the same power.
